Gili Trawangan

The Gilis, consisting of Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air, are a chain of three small islands just off the northwestern corner of Lombok, Indonesia. Pace of life is slower here. Motorised vehicles are non-existent and the main way of getting around is by bicycle or cidomo (small horse-cart). Located a couple of kilometres south of the equator, the Gilis enjoy a tropical climate. Temperatures hover around 28°C and water temperatures range from 25 to 30°C. The local Sasak people practice Islam, and throughout the day you can hear the mosques singing the call to prayer. In a country home to over 700 indigenous languages, Bahasa Indonesian is the national language that ties the country together. However, you may hear many Gili locals speak Sasak, the dominant culture on nearby Lombok.

Trawangan is the largest and most populated of the three Gilis. Lonely Planet recently referred to it as, “A paradise of global repute, ranking as one of Indonesia’s top destinations”. During the day, stroll along the main strip to enjoy various boutiques, restaurants and spas. Enjoy a game of beach volleyball on Trawangan’s white sand beaches, visit the turtle sanctuary or take a bike cruise and watch the sunset over Bali's Agung volcano. Trawangan is truly a holiday paradise.
